Hey thanks guys for the comments.

I will post picks of all my trucks as I get time just pretty busy right now. On the trailer and the Pete the lift axles are run by a servo and a lever so yes you can raise and lower the lifts and are run by a switch on my VG6000 radio and they do hold weight.. :Tamiya1:

Ok I have been working on the K900 the last 2 days and I got the frame all built and mocked up so as soon as the RC4WD Punisher drive shafts and then I can paint the frame so here is the picks..I used some of my own stock of longer frame rails and made the frame rails 2" longer than the last set.

Frame 2" longer now

DANG! Thats one heck of a collection.

Them stacks are junk they are going in the can I have SS ones I have to cut and no not going to tie them together as you need to remove the body

Well since I am waiting on my punisher drive shafts I went ahead and started my rebuild of my first truck. I still have to do the back light plate and deck plate and punisher shafts before I can paint the frame. Then I am going to install the MFU and put the body back on it while I modd another new body for it. I am not sure if I am going to change the tanks and steps I kind of like that old school look on this one..

NIce collection! But I have a question for not just you but for a lot of the mini trucker out there: Why does everyone think that they have to add extra axles or stretch the frames on their tractors now? It just makes them harder to drive in my opinion.

Pete359
10-10-2008, 08:40 AM
Because it just looks so much better.
And the trend now is "wheel base"
http://www.rudshogda-rcklubb.com/modules/coppermine/albums/userpics/normal_10003-pete_363.jpg

And with a small adjustment to the steering, it's not so bad to run.

T@miyA Cowboy
10-10-2008, 09:10 AM
Don't know why others do it but I have always driven real trucks with longer wheel base plus to have a stock tamiya is sort of boring to me anyone can build a kit but not all can make it look real when it is done and I only add a extra axle if it is needed unlike another guy that puts a extra axle on every truck for no reason. And I have 2 of my 9 trucks stock lenght and one that is shorter than stock.

:Tamiya1:

tc1cat
10-10-2008, 09:25 AM
If you are making a tractor after a real version, I have no problen with stretching. But to just lengthen the frame for appearence is kind of a waste. After watching guys try to drive the stretched rigs around compared to normal length tractors, there is no comparison. The shorter tractors are much easier to manuever in all respects. Especially if the builder has put in a gear reduction unit to slow the truck down to closer to true scale speed. Tamiya has a pension for making all of their trucks race cars for some reason. I finally put a reduction unit in my military King Hauler and boy what a difference! Now you can manuever it like a real truck!

T@miyA Cowboy
10-10-2008, 09:34 AM
Yes I tey to build my trucks to look like a real truck. Does not make since to build these off the wall trucks like we see that you would never see a real one of. And you are right about tamiya and there gearing. I use 2:1 and 4:1 that I build then also use 55 turn motors and you still have a pretty good top gear to boot.

I work for a CATERPILLAR deler that works on semi trucks so I get to see alot of trucks and talk to the drivers I also get to dive the trucks to test them after repair. Longer trucks ride better and the extra axles (tag axles any axle other than drive axles) are for weight transfer to meet DOT laws. Some say a longer truk is easier to back a trailer because a shorter truck makes it easier to over correct. Just to add this supper singles are cool on the front of a truck but they are for floatation in offroad apps not on road traction. This is why most over the road trucks do not have them. For the ? why. Why put a C18 3408(18L V8) in a real semi when most use a C14 or C16 inline 6 because thay can. I mostly work on rental equipment The cat line of equipment, JLG airial, and dump trucks.

T@miyA Cowboy
10-10-2008, 07:55 PM
Very good point.. I should of added that but other than looks a longer truck rids a ton better on the open road and when you do 1000 mile runs in a stright line 95% of the time you deal with the 5% you are turning or backing up.

Well Boyz the wife went out of town for 4 days and I got a lot of work done on my trucks and also did a rebuild on another one for my 9 year old son I was not planing on..

This here is my son Hong Kong Hauler you all have seen these yes they are junk but do have some good body parts on them,More on that later.I took his truck and gutted it and put in a traxxas remote, receiver, and esc out of one of my parted out traxxas trucks and and dropped them in with a traxxas servo and a 7.2 witch was all pretty easy. Then we just took the truck and trailer and went all army on it and came up with a truck my son really likes and drives pretty nice.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_1824.jpg

Ok so then I also got the paint work all finished up on my KW900 and got some of it back together and am now just waiting for the MFU to show for it. I put bird screen on the stock air cleaners and also put PMD tank straps on the tanks, built some new stacks and then took the chrome KH dash out of my some Hong Kong Hauler and also the clear glass out of his truck and put it in the KW with a GI Joe ghuy at the wheel and then made some mirrors out of King Hauler to fit the KW. So here is what I ended up with today..

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_1830.jpg

I still have to paint all the window trim and put in the smoked lexan windows in the sleeper plus wire the MFU and extra lights control

I also got the frame work painted on the green pete and I am putting it back together right now and the MFU came in for it as did the punisher shafts. Stay Tuned.

Well after and good wait my white bone trailer showed. I asked Rocky to build this trailer to match a friends trailer for hauling my crawlers around.

The trailer is 36 inches from tip to tail dove tail with flip ramps. Also rocky added rub rail landing gear and adjustable hitch. The rims and tires I sent to him and he did the rest and did a great job..

I got the gold pin strip around the orange color the last 2 day I think it really sets it off nice.

I am going to start wiring it now I am trying to decided if I should use the Servo Naught sound and light unit or if I will go with the tamiya MFU pretty tight on space with the motor under the hood so the tamiya mfu is sort of losing out. I also have to make mirror brackets and rear light plate.

Ok here we go with my new build it is a King Hauler crossed with a TLT and a CR01 to make a KW oil field truck.

I deiced to over haul my 6x6 rock crawler and go with something more scale. I try ed to have it done for Indy this year but the black truck was being to much of a pain in my rear. So while I was waiting for my supplys for the fire truck build I deiced to get it back out of the closet and get going with it.

SO here it is I am going off the KW 963 family of trucks. Witch there is many different ways you can order one of these monsters this is the one I liked
most.

Then I cut the fenders off and angled the nose down and I lowered the sleeper to match the roof of the cab.

Now to build the fenders, I built them out of 1/8 to make them good and strong.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_0434.jpg

Now I had to modd some stock KH air cleaners to match the ones on the real truck.

Now i built the tire rack for the back of the cab and I got building and did not take picks but here are some afters. All alum sheet and angle taped and screwed together with a chain rack on the passenger side.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/1116092116.jpg

Now to build the drum winch. I am not going to make the winch itself work but it will work. :-/

Heres teh parts we need..
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_0442.jpg

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_0443.jpg

Ok here is how I am making the winch work. i am mounting one of the good scale German winches. the winch that started all the other winches nice thing about these is they will pull ALOT of weight with out breaking.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_0444.jpg

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_0445.jpg

Then I mounted a fair led in the top of the deck for the cable to come threw and wrapped the cable around the drum. So when you run the winch teh drum will turn .
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_0446.jpg

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_0454.jpg

Now i still have alot of detail to go plus the trailer still needs to be built.

I got a little more detail work done late last night on the rig. I made a movable 5th wheel and 5th wheel ramps.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_0456.jpg

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_0455.jpg

And as you can see in the picks above I also added a RC4WD King Kong hook.

Then I added a edge for the chain box out of brass angle.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_0458.jpg

Then I made square blinkers out of 3/8 square tube and cut the King hauler amber light to fit. And I also added brush guards out of brass over the blinkers.

got the tranny mounted. I used some milled shock mounts for the F350 they were the perfect size and hole pattern.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_0462.jpg

I also got 2 of the 3 drive shafts in my other one did not show yet.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_0461.jpg

Then I got the steering done. I used bigger alum tie rods and emaxx ball joints and I added alum black drive hubs and junked the plastic ones. I also used a 645 for the steering and a 5626 for the shifting.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_0464.jpg

Then i thought a set of these were fitting since it would be 11.4 Lipo and a 55 turn with a 8 tooth.

http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g276/theonlytamiyacowboy/IMG_0465.jpg

And the rig is getting a full set of custom milled hubs

I also got a new King Pin Plate milled out of derlin that lynn made for me I am trying it out for him. They are just perfect and there is much less friction between the trailer and 5th wheel also the derlin wont mark up the painted 5th wheels like the alum plate does.

I am finish up the KW 396 Oil Rig Prime mover. I finished up the front bumper and the grill so the chassis was off to paint. I got the hole frame tore down and etch primed and then base prime then 4 coats of single stage paint on top. Then I was able to start putting the chassis back together so here are some picks.
