There will be a red, and blue version acording to reports and ''rumors'' it's a Nov-Dec date. Which makes sense.

It's on the TamiyaUSA website

They will be available directly to consumers from us, we are only brining in a very small amount.

The red may just look like that in the photo. We'll have to confirm when it arrives here in the U.S.

What is the price going to be ? My information from RC_Champ overseas is that they will not be available to Hobby Shops but only through Tamiya themselves. This correct ? Now, back to the price ? I've already built one Full Option High Lift so I would be a candidate for the XB version. :willy_nilly:

MSRP $1130.00 per tamiya website. thats some serious coin

but it won't be anywhere near that.
Look at how much the MSRP is for the highlift kit compared to what they sell for.

My understanding is it is available only from Tamiya directly, who I believe only sells items at the MSRP. Ouch, but it is a fully assembled, detailed Full Function kit. I was hoping that Tamiya might knock a few bucks off for us "die hard fans".
I wonder if Tamiya will offer us a better price as a combo. We all know this would not be inexpensive.

Just for clarification, that MSRP price has already been knocked off a LOT. And it is purposely not sold through hobby stores because then you'd have extreme price fluctuations and mark-ups (or those buying overseas). The price on the website is the final price. I doubt any serious enthusiasts would buy it, most like to customize it from the kit instead.
The system comes with the 4 channel radio, servos, MFU, and Hi-lift fully painted and assembled.
gtr: what better price as a combo? a combo of what?

larrio, how many of the XB's are being produced? If it were a limitied run, it might justify the price for collectors

The combo of purchasing the XB vs. if you bought the kit, radio, paint and MFU.

I really like it that Tamiya have decided to release 2 colours in XB format, it would be nice if they released it without the MFU as well, at a cheaper price, IMO.
All I could do with the option for XB painted bodies to be availabe in a range of colours.

I agree. I don't see what the big deal about the price is, really. If I bought that, I'd end up trying to sell the radio, servos, and ESC. That's too much money for a guy like me that will end up customizing it anyway. Now for newbies or guys that don't like building, it's great.
Will this be complete with bearings? I don't see that anywhere. I wouldn't mind buying a prebuilt unit with bearings, without all the electronics. Just the truck, nothing else.

I can have the Full Option Kit (Kit, 4VWD Radio, MFU, Battery Pack & Charger) shipped to Canada for $660 CDN from overseas.

We haven't received any indication from Japan that it will be a limited run item (usually limited edition items have a 49xxx kit designation number). We are bringing in a limited amount (here in the U.S) to test the waters.
gtr: The price you see is already a "discount". It would be even more if we offered it through the normal distribution network (Japan to USA to Distributor to Retail to Consumer)
Supreme Reign: Our descriptions do not indicate the ball bearings will be included in this XB. It would be safe to say they will NOT be included.
As "backtomyroots" has already said, you can source many items (to your liking) easily for a better price. But remember, as enthusiasts and general hobbyists, everyone here already has a general idea of what to buy and where. Many new people to the hobby or just individuals who don't want to deal with the hassle of building may choose to purchase this XB instead.

I wonder if the prepainted/detailed body would be available in replacement part form? If that red really looks like that in person I would be interested in that!

I have heard that the paint jobs on the bodies are showroom shine. They are just as good or better then a 1:1 paint job.

It would be cool if they would be available, like some of the lexen shells that Tamiya produce.

Here's one for you price-shoppers to chew on: Tamiya's got to pay somebody to assemble and paint these things. That doubles the price right there, if you want it done right.
My own opinion, for what it's worth, is that this is too much truck for a newbie. Anyone without the skills to build it won't end up enjoying it. This hobby is nothing but heartbreak and frustration when you've got no skills. Half the fun is building it anyway.
So with that out of the way, you gonna do the same thing with the re-Lux?

Although I am glad to see that it is beeing offered as a time saver or collector's item I am not all that positive.
As a time saver it is great - but... If Larrio is correct, it will most probably not be ballraced, meaning that the somewhat awake hobbyist will still want to ballrace it. Since removing the gearbox is not done easily it practically translates to a complete rebuild where the only remaining XB "help" is that all the parts are laid out before you, the tires are glued and the body is finished.
The beginner might not be that much helped by having it prebuilt. Naturally he/she will hit the dirt instantly, which is a good thing. It might help attract more people to the hobby. But what happens then? The MFU is far from splashproof, what happens when the linkages need adjustment and imagine the horror if they break it? For a total beginner servicing the High-Lift can be enough of a nightmare to scare them off! I have seen on several other forums that even assembling the drivetrain of a Lunch Box might be troublesome to some behinners. Imagine such a beginner trying to work out why the High-Lift does not change gear correctly. Building it, even though time consuming and difficult, is the best way to learn how it works.
I know some of you might argue that it is perfect for us with more experience since we then can buy them cheap from these dissappointed beginners. Call me strange, but I would rather see more people taking up the hobby than beeing dissappointed by the difficulty in servicing their first model. I know that the price tag, still would not make this Tamiya's first choice for a beginner, but still. As I have been on the 1:6 OR scene for some years I have seen several absolute beginners buying truly expensive gassers only to sell them off shortly thereafter. Some even lacked the necessary skills to follow the instructions to install a servo...
Regarding pricing, as an economist I see no problem with justifying a steep pricetag since building it takes time, even for machines at an assembly line (and yes, those machines cost money too) or skilled hobbyists. We might kidd around here saying we will build them for free. Yes, of course but when it turns into a living cost enters.
I see two ideal market segmens for this product:
1. Collectors that place it on a shelf.
2. Users that will not run it much enough to care about ballracing it or stress it enough to risk breaking it.(Say Ford/Toyota dealers that want display cars)
Having said that I am glad even this "complex" model is offered as a XB but I do not expect it to be a sales success.
