Hello everyone ! I have spent the last hour or so going through the different threads here trying to glean information. I would like to purchase a Globe Liner as I like the cab-over trucks and I am confused on a few things.. I have read in the manuals from the Tamiya site about the "recommended" 4ch Attack radio which I see has been discontinued from Futaba, but they apparently have the "new" model, the 4GWD, which is not quite as easy to use as the older model ?? Do I go ahead and try to find a used older model, or just go ahead and get the 4GWD ? I have also read that it seems you need to use the trims to make certain things happen if you have the Multi-function control unit and if I get that unit, I should have it during my build, as it will be much easier than adding it afterward. I read through the manual for the MFU and it seems like the operation is very, very confusing....I assume it is not that bad..any comments would be appreciated. I am going to have all the bearings at the build time and will get a trailer later, after the tractor is all built. Also, I should have the lighting kit at the time of build also ??? Am I missing anything ?

Thanks, and sorry for the long read....(hope my questions aren't too stupid)

Todd, the MFU manual and all its features might seem overwhelming at first. However once you have everything in front of you and you go through the steps and features in the manual with a transmitter in your hands I am sure it will all make sense.

The MFU includes LED lights so you do not need a separate light kit. However, it contains LEDs with a blue tint (Xenon style lights), which is not optimum for the oldschool Globeliner. The Light Kit has light with a warmer colour tone, better suiting the the King Hauler and Globeliner.

What you might consider is the Motorized Support Legs set. It has the parts necessary to not only motorize the support legs but also to have the fifth wheel servo operated and controlled by the MFU, which could be nice to have from day one. It is not difficult to install once the truck is built and is therefore, like the Semi Trailer Lights Set, something you could get together with the trailer of your choise.

Regarding the transmitter to go for, I would recommend the Futaba 4EX. It has a model memory for four models and individual end point adjustments for all servo throws (which is really a great feature). The other choice would be a Futaba 4YF, which basically is a Futaba 4GVWD using FM rather than AM. While the 4YF might be a few dollars less the 4EX is the one to go for as its extra features more than compensates for the difference in price.

The 4EX and the 4YF are available on most markets on frequency bands legal for ground use.

Thank you so much for your input !!! After my original posting, I did some more digging on this site on transmitters and did come across some info on the EX and YF transmitters and have started looking into them instead of the 4GWD. I appreciate your suggestion for the motorized support legs, and the insight into the lights that come with the MFU, however, the blue tint won't bother me too much.....

Well, ordered the Futaba 4EXA with a ground frequency, and I decided to get a Knight Hauler instead of the Globe Liner. The Knight Hauler is on the way, along with a Trinity T65 motor to replace the stock one with. I also have a full set of bearings. I am going to order the MFU shortly, but it looks like I can start my build and get the chassis started before I need the MFU, so that is what I am going to do....can't wait for it to show up in about a week..
