:help:Ok, I am in need of some help! My King Hauler was working fine, now the thing will get about ten feet away from me and go crazy, shuts off, starts up, the front steering will shimy back and forth. I am running an MFU setup with the lights an sound. I checked wires, check the antennas, replaced them, new batteries. I bought four sets of crystals for the transmitter and reciever, Futabas. I cant even get the thing to start up with the new crystals?? Any insites on other problems would be great, or if are the futabas junk?

Futabas are no junk, so that shouldn't be it.
1. You have tried different crystals, but that didn't work.
2. You have checked all your wires and the antenna, but no change
3. You have put new batteries in the truck and no change
Have you changed the batteries in the remote?
Where have to tested your truck? Have you tried different locations? If you have been testing the truck in the same location every time, it is possible that something close by is messing with your radio frequency. By the way, what frequency are you using?

hi!
tx and rx crystals... some receivers are 'single conversion' and others are 'double or dual conversion' which need different receive crystals. could be why the new 'rocks' are not working.
ok, shuts down/steering shimmy... you're losing the radio link.
if it were low batteries in the truck it would just shut down and re-start, without shaking the steering.
either the transmitter has low batteries/loose springs in the battery tray/faulty crystal, or the receiver is faulty/loose or faulty crystal.
or, as McFig pointed out, it could be interferance interupting the receiver... power cables under the floor/pathway can do this.
hope this helps....

i had trouble where my receiver and esc was too close together
i moved them apart and my truck ran better

yeah, had the same problem as 'derailed' with the esc and receiver too close, I was using a 80A brushless esc... changed the esc to a mamba max, and havent had the problem since....
have you got those little suppression capacitors on the motor? they're -supposed- to help this problem...

Its kinda crazy. I have moved my reciever, tried a different driving location, a hand full of different crystals, traced wires, new batteries. I am wondering if I need to replace the reciever itself? Or maybe the Futuba stuff is junk an should try a different brand!

that is very odd.. futaba are not normally junk..but after all that testing of parts and your patience, it could be.. was the radio kit new?
A suggestion (you've probabl;y tried this already..) next to the power switch there is a three position switch.. normal MFC running is in the middle position.. try this switch in the bottom position and run the truck without the mfc functions.. and see if you still get the flaky results.
..also.. this probably wont be your problem, but it did come up with one constructor..
a friend of mine had his truck play up.. a lot. turned out the there was a servo lead for the 5th wheel that had been rubbing on the propshaft, and the wires were shorting out there..

Yeah, I have tried running the truck without the MFU. It does the same thing! Ive been over the wires, couple times, dont see any rubbed thru?

It could be just the receiver. Was it new?

well it has to be one part of the 'radio link' to give the results you're getting, either the Tx or the Rx..
changing the crystals is usually the best bet, 'impact' can damage them as they are a little sensitive.
as you've tried that already....
batteries in the truck? probably not, that would not give the steering shake...
batteries in the transmitter? possibly.. and also the battery holder in the transmitter..
the receiver itself? if its new..unlikely, but if it came out of a different model, it could have suffered impact.. even if its new, it could have been dropped...
what I would do is this:
turn on everything...
put the handset on the floor. tap (gently!!) with something non-conductive and see if the truck 'jumps'
if it seems stable, lift the handset up off the floor and give it a lillte shake....if the truck hasnt reacted, then
do the same with the truck.. tap (GENTLY!!) the receiver with somthing non-conductive..
radio circuits can go 'microphonic' meaning that they are upset by viabration, jolts etc.
I know this will be difficult to get to the receiver when the trucks assembled..considering just how many wires connect the body to the MFC.. but if it is something loose that is intermittant, then this will help you find the culprit.
good luck, and keep us posted!

Any kind of freyed wires rubbing aganist anythig metal will cause radio problems, also if there is any kind of bare metal to metal contact that will cause all kinds of radio problems. All these problems could be caused even by the envoirment around your truck.
For example power lines or anything with an elektromagnatic field around it
