Well, RC4WD has some great wheels and tires.

those ARE pretty nice but I'd like to find something old scholl like the Bruiser rims and tires. Those wouldn't fit , would they?

The Bruiser rims don't use hex like the hilift axles. You can look for somehthing like it, but not orginal rims.

Hi Guys,

I'm a newbie to the 3Speed and very confused. Took my Highlift to LHS for some wider rims and tyres and they look at me as if I am an alien, since they don't sell Tamiya.

I've checked the RC4WD site but I am having a hard time understanding what size rim wheel will fit the truck. Can someone give me a quick run down what will fit without modifications.

Thanks, greatly appreciate it.

Well, the stock rim is called a 1.9, so you can put on any 1.9 rim (also called wheel). The tires are usually classified by the size of wheel they are going to go on. So if you have a 1.9 rim, you need a 1.9 size tire.

You can sqeeze on a 2.2 size wheel and tire, but it will require some sort of lift. Either a body lift or a suspention lift.

Almost all 1.9 and 2.2 size rims have a 12mm hex on the back, which is what the Hi-Lift uses. Or they may be pin driven, which means you take the hex off your axle and the pin thats on there hooks up to the rim.

What Hi-Lift do you have? F350, Hilux or Tundra?

Thank you very much for the prompt reply.

I have the Toyota Hilux.

Raise the body is easy to do, suspension? Add spacers where leafs mount to chassis?

By the way.. The 1.9 refers to the width of the rim?

it's tall
the width would be about 29mm
btw, i also have a hilux
are you lifting it?
i am
i'm converting mine to a 4-link to give it much more flex
did away with the stock suspension completely
i installed custom made 1.9 wheels and flat iron tires
the flat irons are a bit taller than the stock and really ad life to the truck

The Hilux sits a little bit higher then the other Hi-Lifts. So you may get away with out the body or suspension lift.
For a suspension lift you add spacers between the leaf blocks and the axles.

The 1.9 and 2.2 refer to the diameter of the rim in inches.

Another note. I would look at 1.9 rims with a taller tire. You can get tires that have a 1.9 diameter center, but end up being 4.25 inches tall. Quite a few of RC4WD's 1.9s are tall. It just means the side walls of the tires are bigger/taller/how ever you want to call it.

McFig,

Thanks for your input. As far as tyre width, how wide can I go? Consequently, what tyre rims are you running on your Hilux in the picture?

There isn't much variety in width of 1.9 tires. Most are the same width, but there are a few that are made to be skinny.

You can go as wide as you want as long as it doesn't hit the chassis. But like I said, most are all the same width.

If you talking about the picture in my signature, thats my F350 and I have RC4WD mud slingers on it. But remember the Hilux sits higher then the F350 and the mud slingers have about the same overall diameter as the stock tires. So on the Hilux they might look too small. I would look at some of RC4WD's 1.9 tires that are taller

I think I'm going to go the 2.2 route. I want the tyres to be taller and wider. I found a pair of HPI 2.2 that are 50 mm in width. Found some RPM 2.2's to match. If that works, later on I'll pop for some nice rims from Rc4wd.

If you are going to go 2.2, you can get some nice, cheap beadlock rims from Junfac. They are out of Korea, but shipping is really fast. Just use PayPal to get your stuff. You can get a set of four 2.2 Mudrock rims for $28 bucks. http://www.junfac.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index

You may have to do a little tweeking with the truck to fit the 2.2's. Won't know until you try. It may require a little body or suspension lift.
