Ok, i've been on youtube for about a week now... I need to stop really

I've seen a couple videos of people backing there rigs up and bringing the legs up and as soon as they do, the trailer lights up. one guy said he made the lights "wireless" and DIY... but not clue as to how. Thats how i want mine setup but im not good with electronics. I know the old way is with the cord etc, but im intreged by this wireless setup..

anyone here done/seen/know how to do this, i'm all ears.

in another group im in,someone made plates on the 5th wheel
the trailer had matching plates and the wiring to the trailer was wired to these plates
as soon as the 5th wheel connected to the pin, the plates touched and conducted power to the trailer lights
as for the retracts, the powered retract kit has all the parts to make the legs rais and lower
you will need a 4th channel on your radio to run that

yeah thats what i was thinking, some kind of "hidden" connector or something. Maybe tie it in with the legs. Will ponder this once i have kit in hand.

you can go with a second rc receiver in the trailer
like running two trucks at once

German company Servonaut makes IR-transmitters and receivers that are compatible with the Tamiya MFU and Trailer lights set. While it does cost a pretty penny (well, closer to an arm and a leg to be honest) they really add the last touch of magic to a Tamiya rig.

They, like robbe, use IR and places the transmitter in the fifth wheel and the receiver in the kingpin. Both systems also allow for extra servo channels, which are controlled by the receiver in the truck. This allows for, say liftable trailer axle, trailer steering controlling a pump (for a tanker trailer) or whatever you imagine.

Trail Jero have installed a micro switch inside his motorised support legs. When the legs go up, they also active the position lights and the rear lights. While not as fancy as the German 150 dollar-solutions it still quite cool for only a fraction of the cost.

I bought a 8 Channel RF remote control kit from canakit.com, $60 + Taxes.

Then I made a interface to let the MFU signal the Controller. If you know electronic, it is better.

I post the PCB on my web (http://rctruck.gotdns.org). Goto www.expresspcb.com to down the software, it is free.

Voltage use for the trailer PCB, it all depends on what type of LED you are using.
