Can any of you masters recommend a good, fast, tough steering servo for the Tundra ? I have 1.9 rok lox tires and the steering is sluggish to say the least! On a flat surface it does'nt want to turn left at all!! I've tried adjusting the trim to no avail . I'm new to the hobby and would appreciate some input from those that have been doin this a while .

You should also join our sister site www.tamiyacrawlers.com

You will find a ton of tech help there as well, for stock and hand built trucks.

Do you have a servo saver on the servo? It may be too "soft" and not pushing hard enough. Just a thought

That will give you the best response but also either lose suspension travel or higher CG if you raise the suspension. I perfer the use of a front mounted servo next to the shift servo. It works with my 2.2's just fine

Thanks for the input , could you suggest a fix if it is too soft? I'm not all that familiar with the setup.

Oh wait, this is one of those pre-built ones...that servo saver should be ok.

You can do a Futaba 3305: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?Q=1&I=LXDWF8&P=3
High end Futaba 9351: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?Q=1&I=LXDTB2&P=3

You can also look at Hitec servos. They are usually a little cheaper then Futaba and they work well.

i've converted my toyota to 4-link rather than leaf springs
there's some serious flex in it now
the little i loss in up/down, i gained in suspension flex for crawling
if you stay with leafs, then the mod i did will be less effective

i did the steering mod from junfac and went tower pro 995 mg for the servo. i can lean the truck over on two wheels and still turn with 2.2's no problem.

I run the stock servo saver on my Hilux with 2.2's . To get better steering I use a zip-tie and wrap it around the plastic spring on the servo saver.

Hi janderson,

Awesome article on the Tundra!
You mentioned "...much small linkage between the steering servo & steering ball end...", would appreciate where can I buy that linkage please?
Since I fitted 2.2 wheels on my Highlift, the steering has gone "bonkers"! It won't go straight any more and the linkages seem to be wobbly too...! I've tighten the screws and its still the same...
Your kind help is highly appreciated.
Thanks

That steering set-up in the above photo is from Junfac.

Maybe you can post up a pic of what your current linkage is.

Can you talk me through this please? I would like to mount my servo's like this. What type are you using? What will I need exactly to do this? I am in Afghanistan right now, but the truck is here. So I can order whatever I need to to mount mine the way yours are mounted. Thanks, Ken

As he explained in the article:

As you can see the above pictures do not follow the instructions. The instructions call for you to mount the steering servo on the side and add linkages. This will help you if you plan on adding rear steer down the line. I like to mount both servo's together and get rid of some slop due to long linkages. By swapping the side the shift servo is mounted to and mounting the steering servo there instead, all you need to do is add some small spacers between the servo and its mount (approx 5mm). You will then get the clearance you need. You will need to add a much smaller linkage between the steering servo and the steering ball end (Approx 40.58mm).

Does this answer you question or do you need more info?
