Er...I'm first in that queue thank you ;)

It seems to be suffering a bad case of "little wheel disease" though, & the push bar from the Hi-Lift looks way out of scale.

I'm still buying one, just need to junk the wheels & that bar.

Does the surf board come with it?

I'm pretty sure if it is that'll be the deal clincher. :Good Point:

Like the paint job, however I still feel it could benefit from slightly larger tires. Love the surf board though - where can i get one of those!!?

I'll be waiting for the body set, I hope it will be released as a body parts set. I wouldn't be surprised if that outsold the kit.

AH, YEAH!!!!

I would like to pre-order one body please. :willy_nilly:

Check out those rims. I may have to purchase the whole thing.

already have the truck on pre order, digging the surf board but needs some bigger tires for sure. The mirrors also need some work, they come up to high and stick to far out.

Any pictures of the inside of the bed? I spy rear tail light buckets too, and some cool roll bar lights

my gosh thats looking sweet now its lost the vintage paint scheme, as lets face it - its not mounty!

is that box art? is the surf board included and are those the final wheels?

i like those wheels, just needs larger diameter tyres but i think 2.2's might spoil this ones scale appearance.

i'm getting at least 2, and a body set for my txt-1 shelfer. sweet!

The mirrors also need some work, they come up to high and stick to far out.
Those mirrors are completely wrong for a Mk1 Hilux, nothing like the real deal.

Does it need bigger wheels or lowering to stop it looking like the body is perched too high?

Thorsteenster
10-05-2007, 03:21 PM
I like them way better than the original Bruiser/Mounty mirror.

I know there not correct to the year of the truck, I dont think the truck even had a passenger side one... but if they are going to run with those they should be re worked a little bit

10-05-2007, 06:06 PM
Definitally needs bigger tires and beadlock rims. Could use a Chevy body, too. This truck will outsell the F350 if Tamiya markets it right. If not for the truck itself, the body will make it a top seller.:Tamiya1:

This is the model I've been dreaming of since I was kid!

Perfectly beautiful in every way -I think the wheels are scale when compared to the Hilux's 1/9 proportions, and leaves the modeler the choice of upgrading to 'monster' wheel/ tire combinations. Echo what was previously said about the stock photo paint job - I hope it gets released with this scheme on the box top! And the surf board... How cool is that!?! Not typical to Tamiya models as far as I can recall - I suppose only time will tell if it makes the kit. Also noticed that the Metaltop wheels got the 'black chrome' treatment; Not sure how I feel about that. All these 'new' models being released and not so many new designs.. Why not do a Centerline style wheel in flat aluminum plating? Has design and tooling gotten more expensive or difficult? (Personally I doubt this.) I can only imagine that this may be Tamiya's acknowledgment that most modelers first 'hop up' item will probably be a new set of expensive hoops, so why bother including a new design in the kit. Well, that's my best guess anyhow.

I am also a bit disappointed to see that the interior parts didn't make the final design - Which I'm sure was a compromise for the MFU unit, but the straight-rail chassis is probably whaere the real blame should go. In my opinion, designing the High-Lift chassis with the straight chassis rails rather than the 'formed' frame of the original Hilux was a big miss. Doesn't allow for an interior, and doesn't appear as realistic. Thankfully a few after market fabricators have given us some frame options, so I can't rally complain. ;-)

At any rate, CONGRATULATIONS TAMIYA! You most definitely have a mega-seller here!

I'll take two.. ;-)

Looks good, although I agree with everyone else, the wheels are too small. I don't care about the other details like mirrors, etc.

Some WW2 wheels would be the perfect size for this ute, and probably wouldn't rub, either. Added bonus would be they make it look more "bruiserish" which isn't a bad thing.

:Tamiya1:

I said I wouldn't buy the High Lift.....and I did....so I guess I'll be buying this as well.

I just got to see this truck in person and I'm still drooling. THIS TRUCK IS VERY SWEET!!!

It comes with the surf board and three different color stickers for it. All lights are drilled for bulbs, even the little side lights and the front fog lights. The covers come off. The rims you see in the pic are stock and look amazing. It's too bad they are 1.9's because everyone is going to go to 2.2s.

The reason the body is so high is because it is one piece, so it needs to be high so you can get the battery in and out. But it looks like it can be easily cut into two pieces so it can be at the same level as the F-350 body.

The detail is just incredible. It has key holes on each door, turn lights and everything. The side mirrors are connected with a spring with a wire running through it. So, no more breakage, but they will bounce around when driving.

Love the truck and the detail. Tamiya did a great job with this one. I can't wait to get that body on my truck!

There are two screws at the bottom to hold the cab to the truck, just like the F-350. There is also a screw right beind the door handle, but I don't know what it is for.

This is the part where I open my mouth and insert both of my feet. :frusty:

The body is two pieces screwed together. When I got my first viewing it was commented to me by some Tamiya guys that it is one piece. I took their word for it and it looked like one piece. Today, I got to look at the truck again and sure enough, its two pieces screwed together. I quickly pointed that out to the other guys.

But I am not going to blame anyone else. I made the statement and I can admit when I'm wrong. Sorry for the false information. I should of looked more closely the first time.

Please don't hang me. :butcher:

would the position of motor made this mod impossible?

Got to see the boxed product today. Its really sweet. You may have seen a pic floating around the net of the truck on the sand with the ocean in the background. Some interesting points is the back window is a seperate piece, there is a chassis extension on the back of the truck and the rubber strip looks like real rubber. Plus the Toyota emblem and the word Toyota are metal transfers.

Really looking forward to this truck coming out. :Tamiya1:

The truck is said to come with a surfboard. The multi-function unit comes with a loop of a four banger and further enhances the scale of Toyota shell. As for purchasing just the body, I beleive this to be wishfull thinking. After some thought, I think the body is mounted high to allow access for the battery, without removal of the body.
