Finally started on 1/13 scale ladder truck that I have been planning for the last couple of years, Measurements taken from full size 75 foot Smeal ladder. Scale ladder constructed from over 300 brass pieces in three sections extends to 6 feet. Chassis from King Hauler with wheelbase streached 5/8 " Body is aircraft ply that has been glassed. I intend it to be fully remote functional ie: deploy outriggers and run the ladder. Scale hydraulics on the drawing board. I will keep all posted on the build and update with pics.

Very cool! any chance of it being a functional pumper?
You could use a windshield washer pump from a 1:1. they are cheep (under $20) and run on 12v DC. I'm sure it'd still work on lesser voltages but woudn't pump as hard though.

Thanks for the feedback, I do have a small pump that will squirt about 20ft, It will be the last thing installed, need to get the rest of the electronics and hydraulics in place first, If I run out of room the water pump will have to go. LED lighting package and materials to do compartment doors should be here next week. Will update pics soon.

Sorry for slow updates, been a busy holiday season. Progress so far: formed front bumper from sheet tin, Photo etch brass grill chromed, finished off and painted checker plate on body, started assembly on compartment doors. MFU is wired and ready for installation and I am currently wiring the emergency lights.

Hey all, In an effort to remain as scale as possible to the real truck this is modeled after I broke down and installed a steerable tag rear end. I was suprised when finished at how easy it was and how realistic it performs (cut the turning radius almost in half!) When finished I will have to post videos. New pics comming soon.

Progress has been slow, lots of little things to do. here is picture with ladder extended to give rough idea of length (whole thing is sitting atop 6 foot long fish tank) Extended straight up including height of the truck it will be close to 7 feet to the ladder tip.

Dang, that is some serious detail

Thanks, I am trying to get it as close to the real thing as possible, as big as it is I am finding it tough to fit everything in, I originally wanted to have opening compartmentment doors with all of the gear but I need the space for all the electronics, batteries, hydraulics, etc. I am hoping for a May completion Date That will make it one year from start to finish.

Hello again, productive day, got started on the interior. It's as close to the real one as I could get. Had to make some minor modifications to clear the motor, tranny, and vibration unit for MFU. Anyone out there know of a source for realistic guages? need dash compliment and pressure guages for the pump panel. Thanks for the feedback, Dave.

Here is some pics of the completed steerable tag axle, Same as the full size rig, it cuts the turning radius almost in half. It will operate in low gear only and will lock straight in second and third.

It will be switched, (tied into shift servo) active when first gear is selected and then disconnected when shifted into second and third, I will be installing a damper that will keep the wheels straight.

What do you mean by "scale air packs"?

SCBA (self contained breathing apparatus) The seats are what is called 911 style and the airpacks mount inside the seats ready to go so you can gear up on the way to a call, step out of the truck and be ready to go. I should have some pics of the finished seats in the next day or so.

Just been trawling through your thread, nice work, cant wait to see it finished and working. With regard to your need for realistic gauges, there is a company in the UK that does gauges, compasses, flags etc. Try this site they may have what you need.

Incredible work! The interior with 911 seats and SCBA's simply blows me away. Your latest picture with the interior installed and lights on really showcase the truck. Being a retired rural firefighter, your truck really strikes a cord! Simply outstanding!

how did you make your roll up doors
mrfish55
02-16-2010, 11:39 PM
Sorry for the delay in answering, not spending all that much time on this forum lately, the roll up doors are evergreen styrene panels with groove in it, the doors do not actually roll up, needed the room for all the electronics. I never posted the build to this site but here is the latest truck I am working on, Pumper/Rescue

It's tough when you are thinking of a great build. Then you see not only did someone think of it but do a great job. I would love to see this build. My father is a retired firemen. I have been precessing a king hauler build. I would love to duplicate his work truck. I would also like to see how you did the sliding doors and more pics and photo progress. Incredible work.
