View Full Version : Tire replacements for Hilux
I'm trying to source new tires for my Hilux. What current tires in the Tamiya catalogue can be used as replacements. Can the BF Goodrich tires used on the Volkswagen Touareg be used. Do the plastic inserts fit?

I don't know if the inserts fit but I have seen people put BFG's on the Hilux wheels. High Lift tires should work also.

The wrangler-hummer-toureg ect tires will fit on the hilux wheels, though a bit loose. A bead of silicone, even a bit of electrical tape will suffice to fill the slight gap. Silicone (black) is good because it will also keep the tire from slipping.
Blazer rims are much to wide.
I also suggest putting foams in, not for tire sag but to ''widen'' the tire out at the bead area just that little bit.
As for putting the hilux inserts in the newer tires good luck, unless you have extreamly strong fingers you'll be there a while.

I replaced mine with some BFGs, although I think I may want to go taller, not sure yet. I also was able to get the lock rings in mine, not sure how well they will keep it from slipper, only time will tell.

I have used the Brat/F-150 tires on mine and they seem to work OK for a runner. I too shall try the BFG to see how they work.

The plastic insert will go very fine, although you will need some help from the Superman's fingers . At the end the result will be perfect.

I used RC4WD 1.9 Rock Stompers on my Blazing Blazer Wheels. Fit Perfect.

Sand blasters will also fit (I don't speak from own experience, but I've seen them sitting on that rims)

monster_beetle, are you sure you have seen them on Hilux rims? Blazing Blazer rims look the same but are wider, which I believe would be necessary for the Sand Blasters to look normal.
Most scale looking 1.9" tires that are not too wide will fit too.

Hmm, I think you're right indeed. Have to do a search for it, and have a good look. I hope to find it, but I think you're right.

The F350 tires fit nice, with the hilux inserts too. I like the taller look of them.
