Calling all electronic Guru's

How do i wire up my hi-lift with lights?

Right here goes, i don't want to purchase the mfc unit for my hi-lift partly cos i'm tight and partly because i just haven't got any room for it. I will purchase some led's/ switches/resistors and solder them up myself.

1) Can i power the lights of the spare channel of the reciever?
2) Or better to come of the 7.2v Battery Pack?
3) Or a seperate Battery supply?
4) In series or Parrallel?
5) One circuit for all or split (i know this will give more options some lights on some off)

All ideas welcome, surely there are other truck owners who have built there own lighting rigs.

Any thoughts anyone?

Honestly, if you have to ask all these questions I don't think its something you should do yourself. Secondly, if you do, as will I, search around on the net, there is a metric ton of info on how to wire LED's.
Here's one I found awhile back.

It's mainly the power side of things and whether to put them in series or parrallel?
I'm a dab hand at soldering so that's not an issue.

Good link plenty of info.

I know this is a old thread, but a easy way out thats not all that expensive is the TLU-01 kit for the drift cars, its got a heap of outputs and just links off the battery input to the ESC, if you want you can wire up your own leds and plugs to suit the TLU controler.

I've got the MFU in my hilft, its cool and all, but it really turns it into a shelf queen.. i just know im gunna get the new hilux as a runner and just use the TLU-01 light kit.

Can we really talk about "old" threads already on this young forum?

Anyway, LEDs typically only draw 30 mA each so even if you go for nine powerful ones you will still not have the LEDs drawing more power off the receiver than a stock servo.

I went for nine 40 candela LEDs, they were the most powerful ones I could find that fit. I supplied power via a separate 6 V receiver battery. I added a resistor to each LED and parallel coupled them to the battery. This setup is, as the rest of my truck, water proof and gives enought light to easily drive the car in total darkness and blind you when it runs towards you.

If you are unsure of what resistor to use with your power supply and LED, think of high school physics:
U=RxI

Best of luck!

Nailed it running 13 white leds off 4.5 volts nothing's smoking and i have wired up the forth servo to turn the lights on using the other channel on the Transmitter.

Bright enough me thinks

With the tlu-01 light module, does it give brake and reversing lights linked to the esc?, and also enough sockets to power all
the spots on the hilux?
Just curious before i invest

I use 3RAC LED LIGHT SYSTEM in my F-350.

:link: (http://www.stellamodels.net/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=14&products_id=3152)

PS: You have to change some of the led's from 5mm to3mm on this kit!
But it works great!
