View Full Version : Truck Puller 2 and / or 4:1 reduction

Reading through some forums, people seem to change the stock motor with a slower one, for example a Truck Puller 2 (which runs on 6500 rpm opose to the 18k).
Some people run a 4:1 reduction to reduce the speed.
My question ist: what is the best practise, how does it perform to use either or combined ?
I'd like to use them / it in a Knight / King Hauler with Semir Trailer ...

Slower rpm motor is the cheapest way to go. I put a 35 turn lathe motor in my King Hauler and it seems to slow down the truck in first gear to a crawl. This is what I wanted. 3rd gear is still fairly fast but not compared to the stock motor. 4 to 1 gear reduction unit is alot more expensive but actually gives you much more flexability in picking out the speed you want. You can then play with motors to give you the top speed you like. Reduction unit also gives you more torque than just changing the motor. HTH!!

Cheers ... so the best way is to start with a 4:1 reduction and if it is sitll too fast using a lower running motor ? Just hard to imagine :) Still waiting for my radio to arrive :P

Some of the reduction units will fit between the motor and tranny depending upon who makes it and what truck you have. Buddy of mine put the reduction unit there in his King Hauler. You have to get one that fits between the frame rails for the Knight Hauler as it has a lower hood than the King Hauler. I would stay with the original motor until you get to run the truck. It might be exactly what you want.

I use both a billet 4:1 and an integy v10 55 t lathe motor. Works great for me, more power!!!!! I like the slow scale speed, more control or backing up. I also tend to pull 45 plus pounds not to mention the grade. Depends on your style and what your gonna do with the truck.

I run a gd600 and a 65t lathe motor on my king hauler,it is almost painfully slow but very powerful!

For me its rather speed which counts - not so much power atm ...

I would like some more pulling power and lower, more realistic speeds on my King Hauler.
I’m considering putting a 60T crawling/lathe motor in it, but I have the multifunction kit…
Can the MFC handle anything beside the stock motor? No ordinary ESC would have a problem with high turn motors…
Is there someone that has tried a crawling motor with the truck or hi lift MFC (35T – 80T +)?

You should be fine with any of the higher turn motors with the MFC. I am running a 35turn motor with the MFC in my Military King Hauler.
