I have a question for the experts. Will the transmission from an F350 fit in place of the stock semi transmission? I want to make a 6X6 out of a Globeliner chassis and this seems like the easiest way to go along with a TLT-1 axle for the front end.

Thanks.

There are physical differences between the two transmissions (F350 and Semi). You could probably make it fit with slight modifications, but i'm not sure what else will get in the way.

Why would it seem like the easiest way to use a F350 transmission in place of the stock semi one?

F350 transmission has output shafts for both the front axles and the rear axle. This way I can supply power to both ends of the truck without using any gear reduction units or transfer cases. Makes life much simpler.

I think it can be possible. When I built the F350 and the Scania back to back I noticed that the F350 transmission is somewhat taller, which in this case might interfere with your body.

It's tough to say now since I don't have both in front of me to compare.

Should not be a problem as I want to scratchbuild a Studebaker 6X6 from WWII and I can always raise the body to allow for any height problems. This is going to be my winter project for the R/C truck and construction show at Indianapolis next year. Should fit right in with my military King Hauler.:first:

The key will be the width of the frame on the F350 and the semi's. The semi transmission's mounting "ears" sit on top of the frame rails and bolt to the top. The F350's transmission mounts come out the sides of the case and are bolted through the sides of the frame making the tranny another crossmember. If the width is the same, the swap should work simply with the drilling of a couple of new holes.

Finally got an F 350 tranny to try and fit it in a Globeliner frame. All you have to do is drill some mounting holes in the sides of the frame and you are good to go. Now to get a Globeliner kit for the rest of the drive line parts. Not sure which way I am going to put the F 350 tranny in the frame though. Output shafts at the front or rear???? OH, WELL that is what the winter is for!! Thanks to everyone for their help.I will keep everyone updated on this build:dance::Tamiya1::yourock:

Mounting the trans via the hilift mounts... the t-case may hang to low. From the approx measurement I took, the hilift trans will sit 15mm higher than a regular semi trans.

I mounted the t-case from the hilift trans to the back of my semi trans b/c I wanted to keep my twin 12v motor setup and I bolted the trans on 34mm stilts so the t-case had ample ground clearance.
