Just curious what you guys use with your tractor trucks. I just ordered a Futaba Skysport 4YF in a ground frequency. I also ordered a stainless shiftgate from Forrest at Bruiserbuilder.com. I'm going to have to use the S3004 servos for a little while. I coulda/shoulda bought the Futaba 4EXA radio for only $20 more, but when I'm half awake I tend to make the wrong choices when I order. Oh well.......

I use a JR R-1 for everything. Sadly, it's no longer made, but they show up on ebay from time to time. The third channel is fully rpgrammable and assignable to any switch or button.
I just prefer a wheel radio, and the R-1 makes shifting a breeze. Once the center and endpoints are set up, banging through the gears is quick and easy. I wouldn't have so many 3-speeds if it wasn't for this radio.
For servos, nothing special. Tamiya specifies standard servos for the rigs, and they work fine. I have JR 537's in mine.

Speedy, Your Futaba is fine. I use this model for tanks and trucks. The S3004 servos are fine for the trucks unless you are planning to replace the tires with something bigger and wider. I also have one of the older 6 channel Skysports on ground frequency that currently is in my military King Hauler with the MFU in it.

The Futaba 4YF is a great radio for the trucks. If you intend to use the MFU you need to be careful that the radio you choose has analog trim. The newer digital trims do not like the extra functions of the MFU. I've been using the Skysport 6YG in my rigs. I got my first one on sale since the local shop was out of 4YF's and got hooked. I like the extra adjustments (throttle end point and steering dual rate) but they are not a must have. The 4YF is simple and pretty much a bullet proof system w/analog trim. Sadly the 6YG has been discontinued.

I was hunting for the 6YG for weeks .. now I ordered the 4YF and need to find anoter solution for my modification which I wanted to use a 5th channel for :(
I wish the MFU wouldn't be so radio specific :( :(

For all my three speeds and tanks I use the Futaba 4VWD on MHz with S3004 servos.

Keep your eye on good old ebay, ground 6YG's continue pop up from time to time as folks upgrade to new systems. Also Futaba can re-tune an aircraft 6YG to ground. I don't know what it costs but if you can buy the radio right it could be an option.

You intend to use it in conjunction with a MFU ?

No. I am going to use it to turn on and off different functions on the truck. Mainly lights and I hope a working winch.

Congrats on the radio purchase! Glad I could help! :D
It's the proper ground frequency if you live here in the USA

I've been thinking of buying a king hauler for a while now. I love my F350 hilift but now think I'm ready to also get a semi. I already have a DX7 radio for use with my helicopter. Would this 7 channel radio be a decent choice for use on the semi? At first I plan to just buy the king hauler kit but later wouldn't also mind getting the mfu for it.

As the DX7 doesn't have analog trims, it won't go well with the MFU. Let's say the MFU will work. But not all functions will work well because of the digital trims. I experienced this with my MX12.

I know from first hand experience that a DX6 will not work with the semi MFU. I would imagine that a DX7 will not work either.:sorry:

You're quite right, because they have both digital trims.
