Hiya,
for the last couple of weeks I am trying to find out which transmitter I can use for the MFU
(PLEASE or PLEASE Tamiya update the website to include these informations)
After about 20 signup on several forums I finally found out that you can use the 4 channel radio (analog trims)
Futaba 4YF-FM which comes with a couple of 3003 servos.
Today I finally received my radio and it says on the box
"Digital Proportional R/C System"
So is this again the wrong one ?
I am kinda fed up and frustrated at the moment that I really think about sending the MFU back if this is again the wrong one. I know the MFU is fun and all, but it make the life of a n00b really difficult.

You will be fine with that radio. Most radios state they are a digital proportional radio.

Arf - still a nice one - at least not illegal in the UK

You can use any 4 channel transmitter that has non-digital trims. The trims are the only thing that cannot be digital. That however narrows the field down very much.

From what I have heard is that not all the features work correctly. Meaning you won't be able to remotely turn on your lights or honk your horn. Stuff like that.
The issue is that some of the MFU fuctions depend on the trim being certain ways. Meaning they need to be all the way up or all the way down OR all the way left or all the way right on either the left stick or the right stick or both. The digital trim messes this up.

It should actually work OK but be far from user friendly. Neither the receiver, nor the MFU can actually tell if a signal has been digitally augmented (digital trims) or the analogue way on the potentiometer via a trim lever.
The problem with digital trims are that you have to step your way up to 100 % trim, do the magic and then step all the way down again before you continue. If you have a transmitter where you can change the amount of trim sensitivty per clíck this can easily be overcome. I have such a transmitter but have never tried it with the MFU, on an idle Tuesday I will.
Word has it though, that you use the MFC-01's setup feature to actually overcome this. The rumour is that you let the MFU believe that one click on the trim lever is full trim when you set it up. However considering all the recommendations to stick to analogue trims because digital trims will not work and only one forum post claiming it worked equally well with digital trims my recommendation is a transmitter with analogue trims.
