Hey guys, I'm trying to decide how to slow down my truck. Seeing how people run ~4:1 gear reductions, would someone be able to tell me what I'd need to make that work (in the way of new driveshaft due to length changes, etc.). I'm thinking if no one makes a driveshaft to go with the gear reduction, a lathe motor may suit my needs. My question then is, what motor range would I need to run to get comparable RPM to a 4:1 (35T/45T/55T/65T)? I don't really have the money to go buy each and try it, or that $140 everything-in gear reduction I've seen.

So, any other options I'm missing here?

Try one of these

It's got alot of low end and still has a pretty decent top end.

One easy way is to simply add a resistor to the motor. Reducing the voltage supplied to the motor makes it slower but does not damage it.

Place it between the + lead and the motor. That way you can keep everything as it is and it is by far the cheapest option. Even a dollar ought to give you several resistors, thus allowing to see exactly what resistance suits you best.

Great tips!
Why havent I thought of that?
I have just jused resistors on led, but I will try this now!

Thanks!
