Topping off the Lux

I made this bed cap out of pink home-insulation foam, covered in fiberglass cloth. The side windows resemble those used on the Trekker, but I didn't convert the tailgate because it's really ugly.

Mounting is pretty simple. A couple of rails under the cap are an interference fit with the inside of the bed. It won't come off unless I pull it off.

The topper is done. I also installed some 1/8 piano wire in the kit brackets and made a 2-board rack for the top of it, because who wants to surf alone?

I decided to leave the rear bumper off.

btw, I know someone's going to say it: the surfboard is indeed upside down, but if I mounted it the way real surfers do, you wouldn't be able to see the decals. And I really like the decals.

The reason surfers don't mount the board that way is the sun will melt the s e x wax they apply for grip.

In the beginning, Zog asked friend and artist, Hank Pitcher, to design a label for the new surf wax. Not one to shy away from controversy, Hank came up with a visually intriguing logo bearing the name "*** Wax". Hank liked the name because it sounded phonetically cool. Zog liked it because it was attention-grabbing, absurd, and a great spoof on Madison Avenue's not so subtle attempts to use *** to sell a product.

Naming the product "*** Wax" has led to some hilarious misunderstandings, some great stories, and some amazing letters from satisfied, but confused, customers. There are those who have been offended by the name and refused to purchase the product. There are those who have banned display of the logo at schools and family amusement parks. And then there are those who read the label and smile with the knowledge that the world needs all the humor it can get.
