View Full Version : MFC-02 help?

I got my MFC-02 today, and I'll admit I'm a bit overwhelmed. I've wired 1:1's that didn't have this many cables.
Problem is this: I can't suss out the turn signal operation; the manual isn't real clear on this point: Do I have to activate the turn signals every time, or is it one-time and then they always work? Because if it's supposed to be that way, something's amiss. And even if I have to activate them every time, someting ain't right. Maybe my thumbs aren't quick enough. I can activate the hazards, but trying to use the left stick to activate turn signals only gets me the "you've shifted into top" sound, and no blinky.
Is there a way to switch on the fog lights?
What are OP-1 and OP-2? They're mentioned in the manual, but only in passing. Now I've got my fogs plugged into the high-beam slot, so I can flash them, but I'd like to be able to leave them on.
I can't make heads or tails of the lighting diagram on page 13. Can somebody please translate it into English?
Gotta say I like the way the 4-cylinder sounds in the Hilux, and overall it's a wonderful piece. I'd just like to understand it. I feel like such a noob :sorry:

To make signal turn you need to quickly press the RIGHT joy stick down and release quickly then turn either left or right the signal will blink left or right ,you need to do this every time.
I would write down the functions on page 11 on top of each diagram what they're for from the description top of page 12 makes it easier to figure out.
The hardest to do is the fake engine shut down or start up via the remote ( #11 on page 11 )
but with little practice you can get it without accidently turn on the flasher.
The Fog light on top of the roof or on the bush guard?

Fog lights on the brush guard, thanks.
I went through the transmitter-learning routine, and now the hazards blink once when I trim right & stick right with the left stick, but nothing else happens with the turn sigs. I'll try the deal with the right stick and see what happens.
Transmitter battery died so I'll charge it up and give it another go. It's a Skysport4 (4YF) if anyone's wondering.
Also turned up the vibro-matic to full cocktail-shaker mode. We'll see if I can knock any screws out.

you got it all wrong, Do NOT touch the left joy stick and do not touch any trims.
just press down and release the RIGHT joystick quickly and then quickly turn as if you going to make a turn.
See Diagram #7 on page 11.

Thanks for that, guess I wasn't quick enough on the turn signals before. Looks like they want you to turn right after you activate, no sitting around deciding which way to turn.
Any ideas on the fog lights?

Glad to help i've build many Tamiya kits before but the MFC02 instruction got to be the worse one by Tamiya so far. As for the fog light i have mine set up for flashing hi beams too. if you want it to light up constantly maybe plug into optional port but not sure , have not figure it out yet and don't want to mess up and damage this expenive unit.
I'm trying to find out where to connect the sidemarker lights on the front&rear fenders.

Yeah, I'm trying to suss that one out myself. But I used one of the 3mm LED pairs for the running lights, so I can only do one or the other.
I suppose just random plugging-in couldn't hurt, could it?
I've also noticed the engine sound sometimes hits the start-up sound when I shut down. Not sure what to make of that one.

J19 Optiion Light turns on at the same time as the parking lights (first)
J13 illuminates the fog lights.
I think it needs a license plate light. Don't want to get a ticket.

sweet, but J19 if for 5mm lights does it matter i we plug in the 3mm side marker light?.
license plate light good idea but where to get more lights with correct connectors the ones available are for TL02 units for touring sedans so the connector won't fit

Not a problem for me, since I'm not using the rollbar lights.
I don't <think> using a small LED on a big-LED circuit would cause problems. So far nothing's smoked....
Painted the sidemarkers with red & orange to knock the brightness down. There's still a blue tint to 'em that I'm trying to work around. Also hit the LED's in the side lights (white ones beside the headlights) with X-55 Deck Tan to knock the blue off 'em. Works really well, but doesn't photograph.
