An important difference is that the new Futaba 4GWD has digital trims, which is not great for most MFUs. On the positive side it does have both End Point Adjustment, sub trim and a 3 model memory.

I like the 4YF. for $10 more than the 4VWD you get NiCds, 2 more servos and FM all in a ground frequency.

I saw the 4YF but I didn't like the air plane on it (ima loser) I had the 4VWD once and liked it . the extra servos and batterys are a great extra oh well . the 4GWD looks ugly and difficult!

let me ask do the channels really make a difference if im using this on a bruiser also, is it better to have a self neutralizing throttle sick or not and, and which remote has a self neutralizing stick?:Tamiya1:

Any threespeeder will be convenient to use with a 2-stick, 4 channel transmitter that has a gearshift grid.

It is even more convenient to have it selfcenter on the throttle than on the gearshift, which most do. All such transmitters can be modified by the end user to selfcenter on the Y-axis instead of the Z-axis. There are a couple of threads here on this forum that describes how to to this. So do not let that be a deciding factor when you choose a transmitter.

I'm using one with my Hilux highlift. I took the back off and switch the ratchet with the spring from the right stick.

It might be that what you are looking for is here, but in another thread. Why not have a look at this post?

anthguteirrez, what movement not to have selfcentered is up to you, what you would prefer. My recommendation is to let the gearbox not to selfcenter as that will not change gears accidently when you take your fingers off the stick.

I took it from the stick that goes up and down not the side to side steering. This actually works well becuase on the MFU up is the horn and down is rev mode.

I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to do, but I just bought my 1st semi off eBay. I liked the throttle on the non-centering stick, but got sick of holding the stick for the transmission in place while trying to steer. I opened up the back of the radio and took a look. The ratcheting gear was on both of the sticks for the y axis, but the right one didn't have the flat spring detant, and was self-centering. I removed the spring and lever from the right stick and fabricated another flat piece for the gear. I took the original flat piece and made the clone out of a stainless steel hose clamp. It was a larger clamp so the steel had enough spring in it to engage the gear. Now both sticks are self-centering left to right, and non self-centering up and down. Left stick up/down does forward/reverse, and right stick left/right does steering, up/down does shifting. So far I haven't had any issues with inadvertently shifting gears while steering. Now I can drive the semi and it will go straight without having to hold onto one of the sticks. I find it much easier to control and hold a consistent speed while doing slow speed maneuvers such as backing.

actually i bought the skyport and im not worried about self centering throttle because its more difficult to handle especially with bruiser tranny..

why do u need the extra servos? i have a 4vwd and my high lift works great. you can replace the servos that come with the controller by simply buying the same model or one with the same ratings. extras are nice but not worth getting a different radio.
