A quick glimpse of a project that's been spinning round in my head for ages.
Finally nailed the concept and made a prototype.
Eventually this will allow selectable 2wd or 4wd on the hi-lift gearbox once i have made the servo linkage.
I have started making the final piece and will post pics and tell you how i did it the best i can very soon. The modification is on the front driveshaft allow a sleeve to be moved via an extra servo so that the universal joint which is split in two can be re-connected remotely. (hope that makes sense) Forgive the quality of the movie taken on a still camera with video capture, i think you will get the concept.

p.s if it's in the wrong category please feel free to move, wasn't sure,
it's a movie but it's tech and it's hi-lift so i thought i'd play it safe and list it here.

Don't know about that, this could possibly be the coolest mod ever.
Cant reveal all my secrets Tamiya Might be watching!
Of course i will, nearly finished the metal version with all the bearings. Just working on the shifting mechanism. Will post some detailed pics up soon.
Or i could sell Tamiya the exclusives rights and move to that carribean island i've been looking at :telephone:

You get your promotion and you send me a NIB Hift Hilux.
I will scrub all my forum post's here and on that other forum claim i know nothing about it and it must have been a hoax!
You give it to tamiya and get all the glory and make a mint?
Sounds like a win win situation to me?

Right couple of pictures of the 1st bits semi finsihed (little tidying needed)
525
The sleeve that slides has two bearings one at either end pressed and soldered in.
Made out of a 15mm joining piece of copper, it's a straight join piece that you use to join two 15mm pieces together.
Two 15mm bearings yokomo i think! (easy to do)
Two plastic o-rings pressed over the sleeve to allow for the arm to switch but also rotate at the same time.
526
The other end (gearbox end) Scorcher uj (old but all i had) with a cut down
driveshaft cup thingy that fits in the bearing so that it can slide fixed in with a grub screw (even easier)
Nearly finished the other end picture tonight.

That sounds pretty good actually.... in a near perfect world.
If Tamiya USA had it's way, there would possibly be an entire line-up of 3speeds ranging from Chevys to Cadillacs.
