since we try to predict the future by thinking of the past how many folks are stocking up on high lifts and hiluxes for new in boxes for kicks and giggles or for whatever? Knowing that once they get discontinued they will increase some value such as the past of mountainers and bruisers, and hiluxes from the past. Or does tamiya now know that NOT to discontinue good selling kits

Nah, sure I'm buying as many as I can afford but I build and run them I can't leave any Tamiya kit NIB, I take very good care of my trucks though so they will still have very good value if they ever get discontinued.

Am am with wyoming on this topic. I am not into NIBs as I like building and running more than just looking at a box of parts.

Albeit the High-Lift chassis surely will increase somewhat in value after it is discontinued I am positive it will never reach the levels of the first four 3-speeders or the SRBs.

If you are only in it for the money, I would say that it would be smarter to cough up and buy an NIB SRB or one of the first four 3-speeders now and sit on it as their value are more likely to continue increasing. In ten years time such an investment would most likely yield more than a High-Lift investment.

I would think it a bit premature to be stocking up on hi lifts now. really your money would be better off in long term investments.

I think the face of collecting has changed. In the past, i don't think people had the foresight to see how desirable vintage R/C cars and for that matter, many other toys and collectables. So not that many were preserved. Now everything is a collectable and sold with the idea that sometime in the future items will be worth more than their purchase price. I think because of this, there will be a lot product to choose from and prices will be lower.

In the end, something is only worth what another will pay for it. I know there are people sitting on huge collections of beanie babies just hoping for a resurgences in popularity

I really don't think that most of the collectors are buying for long term investments and think it's a compulsion.:omg:
To be frank I have kept two highlift unbuilt ( 350/hilux) just in case of a future project. I'm so far in South america and kits need up to 2 months to arrive here.:Good Point:
I see we will have these two kits available for many years ahead.
If you have money enough, you could get 3 or 4 of each as they will let you to make a lot of different projects.:first:

i think most of on here are more mature than than to buy them for the money we know we can put 2k in some kind of funny market and make more money that way than say hold on to 4 high lifts or 4 hilux for investments. I know I have 4 high lifts right now 2 built and 2 NIB am I gonna get to those 2 NIBs maybe or maybe not I still have not bought a hilux yet. I buy multiple kits because I enjoy looking at them NIB or built either way I think I win. Also i think the internet made it more popular (RC) than it has in the past which to me means more buying and probably less saving them also because we are not savers, but more users i.e. building kits losing kits losing parts etc.....for me though I buy mulitple kits and wont stop not because of investments, but because I LOVE the kits themselves.

Yo Jock. If you don't have time to build and paint...then just buy this:

Someone posted in TC. I know you are inquiring about them, right?
