It took me ages to build that 5th wheel from the MFU because of that small switch in there :P

Today I received my motorized support legs just to find out I have to build another 5th wheel which doesn't contain the switch.

Anyway, isn't the switch necessary for the couple sounds ?

yes the switch is needed for coupling sounds...I believe MFU instructions show how to build a coupler to use with the MFU and the motorized legs. I cant remember has been too long since I did my Knight Hauler. If not you'll have to build a combination of the two. Mine works fine.

thats the thing ... the manual has two parts, one shows the couple with the switch, the other part specific for the motorized support legs which does not include the switch. The coupler used for the motorized support legs doesn't even have the option to add the switch as it has a lever for the servo .. the other way around too .. the couple including the switch doesn't have the lever for the servo (know what I mean ?)

I mean I don't mind the sound anyway .. was just a general wondering ..

Another problem : The servo for the couple doesn't move a bit :(

Gomjaba, you need not change the fifth wheel again. The one that you have from the MFU is compatible with the MSL. Keep in mind that Tamiya has made all these accessories independent of each other, that is why you end up with three fifth wheels once you have a truck, MFU and MSL.

The micro switch does two things, first it produces some sound effects, coupling/decoupling and changes the motor sound. Second, it supplies more current/higher voltage to the ESC parts of the MFU, making your rig more powerful (and too fast for its own good). You thus need the switch as you otherwise might overload the ESC.

I built my Knight with the fifth wheel from the MFU and only added the push pin (B3) and its parts from the MSL. It works great. I did not even bother to change the attachment plate (A3) as tha only allows for a higher angle between the truck and trailer (going uphill).

The servo is only supposed to center once you power it up. It will not move otherwise untill you change the right stick to MSL mode. That is done by moving the gear trim lever to the right and the left stick to the right. The hazard lights will blink once to confirm. Now your fifth wheel servo should respond. If not, you have probably connected it incorrectly to the MFU.

Remember only to change back to ligths/horn mode before you drive of as honking would otherwise docouple your trailer!

Hope this is of any help

Thanks Mouton .. I already combined the two couple switches last night but cannot confrim that it is working as my truck is far from ready... still working on a few modifications. I don't have lights on either so cannot really say and yesterday I saw that the steering and shifting servo also need some adjusting ...

Ah well, thanks for the imput *thumbsup*
