As you have spent some time on this board I am sure you have read the threads with general tips and advice? I do not want to dampen the discussion, merely point out that apart from costumization advice, what you ask is already answered. Same goes for radio advice, there are several threads here discussion/recommending various transmitters for use with/without the MFU.

Regarding customization, I second Pete359's suggestion albeit here in Volvo/Scania Country you do se more 2 than 3 axle trucks on the roads. Another common thing is that many 3-axle trucks only have drive on the mid axis. (As they are allowed full boggie loading pressure with only on driving axle in the boggie, thus saving total weight that could be on the trailer instead.)

There are several threads indicating that a good portion of patience is a must - so there must be some truth in that.
Other usefull thing are Tamiya's threadlock and grease. I always build with rubber sealed ball bearings.
