Thanks for listening......I hope I don't come across too dumb......but......I just purchased a Tamiya F350 high-lift kit for my grandson and want to surprise him with the finished product on his birthday. First Question is...............What type of radio do I need to purchase? Manual request 4 channel, my question is...will any 4 channel radio work? I have looked on ebay and some state they are for airplanes and or helicopters...Other than a Futaba what else would anyone recommend? Second question is the speed control unit............which size do I need? Just for further info, I did also purchase the light kit for the truck.....Any help to this NEWBIE would be greatly appreciated...........THANKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!:Tamiya1:

When you say the light kit, I'm assuming you mean the Multi-Function Unit (MFU). If you got that, then you need a 4 channel radio. The whole airplane thing is refering to the frequency. AM 27, 75 and a few others are for ground vehicles. FM channels are for air vehicles. So any 4 channel AM radio will work. Futaba makes a good one: :link: Futaba 4GWD 4-Channel AM (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSNP1**&P=7)

If you got the MFU unit, it has the ESC built in.

Again, bear with me since I'm new.....Yes it is the MFU that I purchased. I purchased the F350 from Tower hobbies and they stated I needed an ESC, they showed a Dura Trax Intellispeed. Are you saying that since I am adding the MFU I don't need this part?

That is correct. The MFU has an ESC built in.

If you had NOT purchased the MFU, then you would need a seperate ESC.

Thanks......................

I was a little concerned when you stated Tower had on their site the MFU requires a ESC?
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXRLD1&P=Z

Under other items of interest is shows a ESC, but that does not mean it requires one. No where I could find it said it needed one. Can you please verify that is the product you purchased on that page.

If it had stated that you needed one I would have them change that as it is false.

Now the MFU does come with a built in unit, but you do not have to use it if you had planned on using a hotter motor you could by pass using the built in one with a new ESC and and some rewiring.

You would need to power both the MFU and separate ESC, you would also need to send a signal via y harness from the receiver. then you owuld hook up the motor to the new ESC. The MFU would still work in parallel but since no motor is hooked up it really would do nothing.

Hope that helps

Yes you are correct, I didn't totally understand their other item of interest, I assumed I still needed an ESC even though I had purchased the MFU...........thanks for your help and clarification.
