I always thought the hilux was easily the best model that has ever been made ( IMHO of course!)
But it was not without several major faults
No Suspension
No diffs
The bed floor on top of the pickup ( a tarpaulin would have looked much better)
The colossal weight
I bought my lux 26 yrs ago, have no intention of ever parting with it, and want to cure some of these faults.
Yes, a majority may say it should not be done, but the thing is mine, all mine, for me to do what i wish to it.
The plan is to "fix" these faults with as few mods to any original parts as poss, and hopefully this will only mean modifing the rear body as all work so far has consisted of mainly making brackets that been mounted using original screw holes.
Suspension;
loose the original leafs (lost them years ago!) make new out of springsteel and upright the rear shocks.
Remove plastic braces from wheels
(a popular mod 26 yrs ago and indeed was done 26 yrs ago)
Diffs;
easy one this--I'll live with them
Bed floor;
Make a radio plate and mount everything as low as poss. Drop the bed as low as this will allow.
Weight;
loose the radio crate (8oz)-need a new one anyway
Replace the speedo and servo with a simple modern speedo
Mini shift servo
Run on 5 x 2500ma AA cells
And as soon as i can figure out how to post pics, i will
