I have noticed that some owners of the F350 have different types of steering installed on their trucks. One in particular interests me. I have noticed that some have steering rods in front of the axle (like real trucks), but I have not been able to find a kit any where for this mod. Any one know how to do it? or where I can get different steering kit set ups?

This is a picture of some one's Hilux that found on the net, this is the steering set up that I am referring to.

Although I would understand the conveniance of beeing able to pay a few dollars for a "complete set" with a manual, this is an easy DIY.

You only need to turn the steering knuckles 180 degrees and put the steering rod in front of the axle. As you may have noticed there is space enough for a second servo right next to the gear box servo. That is where the steering servo would go if you are interested in such a setup. The you only need to hook up the servo to the stering rod, which can be done with the stock parts. They might need a slight adjustment in lenght (just bend them).

Hi Mouton, I've checked out that space just one question, how do you avoid the gear shift linkage from the servo? :What:

Put some spacers in-between the servo and the screw holes. That will lower the server to stop the arm from hitting the shifting servo.

i use this steering set up on all my crawlers, works great !

now most are changing over to the behind the axle steering kits to avoid smucking them up...

for my hilux i am putting steering servo up closer just to get smoother function, not changing the behind the axle set up though, although it is a good idea minus the thin rods - i would want to beef those up a bit if out in front,

but then again, i am a bit of a basher ! and i need all the extra strength i can get, heh heh
good thread info

Thanks again. looks like some one else asked my next question about the shift linkage clearance. I am sure I have something to use as spacers to lower the steering servo. Thanks again guys.

ok guys I am still having a little trouble installing the steering servo. I can't seem to get it to clear the shifting servo. Can any post some pigs so I can get a better idea of how to position the sevos. Thanks.

what is the benefit of doing this?Is it just for scale appearance?

You get better steering response from this mod and your servo is tucked away instead of hanging in the wind.
