I have just got a TEL-01 led light set for the Ford, getting TLU-02 control unit soon off e-bay. Seems to be the way to go, to get the lights i want, with out the expence of the MFU ($599 Australian !!!!!), I did not want the sound effects, or vibrations (the exhausts vibrate enough for me...)..

let ya know how it works when its all together

I have got the TLU-02 unit today, but i'm having a problem with the instructions. In the "before setting up" step, it says to set up the tlu-02 according to the ESC used."When using a VOLAC; slide the esc switch (on the TLU-02) to the left. For REV. slide switch to the right" ................... ok .......i have a Futaba MC230CR ESC...is it a VOLAC, or a REV. ?????? or am i confusing somthing? the TLU-02 has TWO switches one marked esc(on the right) and one marked REV on the left...... and i'm a bit lost....:What:

You can send an email to our customer service to inquire. The TLU-02 instructions pertain to Tamiya ESC's, hence the confusion.

:thumbdown:I bought a tlu-02, and 2 tlu-01's. I've ended up just using just one 01 as I nearly got so fed up trying to figure out if I could even get the lights to work the way I wanted them too so after 2-3 hours over nearly bursting a few blood vessles I left it at just the single 01. That 02 in my eyes is a load of rubbish unless I was missing something.

Well the fact that you couldn't get it work means you were missing something

Just messing with you. Sorry to hear about the frustration.

Fireball, keep us posted on what you find.

well so far i have got headlights (low beam, and high beam)..operated , on and off, from the button on the TLU, tail lights too, but only when the brake lights are off. (same LED's, 1/2 brightness for tail)

got indicators from the transmitter (on the SPARE channel) not with steering, (didnt seem to reconise the steering channel)

reversing lights with reverse

but brake lights seem to work all the time the car is stopped...NOT with the brakes, but go off as soon as the truck moves forward or to the rear

So far so good, will have to work out the ESC switches and it may work better, but overall so far, i'm happy with the TLU's - good value (at about $100 Aust.) compared to the MFU's $599

roof lights....later... tried to put pics in, but for some reason, it wont allow them... not a valid file.......

I think that is normal, but maybe someone else can confirm this.

Just post the link you are trying to use, maybe we can figure out why it isn't working

Here is one of the links: http://tamiya3speed.com/photoplog/file.php?n=979&w=l

Here is it as an inserted picture:

Here are some instructions I posted somewhere else:
Well, go into the Gallery, find a 3 speed you like. Click on the picture to get the max size. Right click and select Properties. Highlight the Address (URL) and hit CTRL and C to copy.

Go to the Current Contest and select Post Reply. Click on the button that has a mountain on it. If you role your mouse over it a pop up will say Insert Image This will open an address bar. Paste in the url you just copied by holding the CTRL and V buttons. Click OK and then submit Reply.

You should see your picture. If not, don't worry, just leave it. I'll check it and see what went wrong.

Geuss I was overly excited, but I went and got the full blown unit for my F-350. I had headlights and rollbar lights but,,,,, I just HAD to have the noise, vibration, turning it all on and off from the transmitter. Wish I had the money back instead. Pain in the butt trying to remember which way to move this trim, stick movement to get the different funtions to work. Took what seemed like forever to get it all installed too. Best thing is though, whenever I take it out where people are, it draws a crowd.

I did however get all the wires that go to the rollbar hidden into the roll bar tubes itself so you can't see any wires. Dremel tools are one of the worlds best inventions!! That and Vise-Grips!!:Tamiya1:

Where'd your trailer hitch come from by the way????

I made the tow bar out of brass square tube and flat brass, soldered together, the tow ball is a heavy duty ball link i got ages ago, but found some more - DU-BRO # 884 h/d 4-40 ball link.

Ok, I cant belive its a year later, but i'm back looking to add more lights. I've taken off the roof lights, cut 2 of them of the rack, going to use them as "driving lights" in front of the grill. What i'm not sure about is - can I solder together 4 led lights, (there is normally 2 per plug) to run from the one socket on the TLU-01 ? (I want the driving lights to come on with the high beam) but i've reached the limits of the TLU-02 "programabiltity" (is that a word??) to make them come on as i want from one of the spare sockets.
Ant ideas guys?

I think if you run them in 'series' they use more amps same volts and if you run them in 'parralel' then they use more volts same amps.... I think that's how it works. The current draw on LEDs is so small i doubt it would be much issue.

Wish that I can help, I'm still half way on the assembly, but pls let us know how it all goes in the end. I might be also going for the TLU-01+TLU-02 or should I just use my VISA instead

well, I tried it (soldered two sets together in parallel), It worked. Only tried it for a few minutes, we'll see how it goes for a longer time... Now wondering what to do about the whole vehicle looking stange , without the roof lights, I may look at doing somthing with the roll bars to make it look right again.
