My Futaba receiver does not have a built in BEC so I bought a Novak BEC Module (http://www.teamnovak.com/products/BEC/index.html) (#5465).

The instructions state: Locate the ESC's input signal harness and remove the red wire from the connector. Insulate the red wire to avoid short-circuiting, as this wire is "live". Be sure that the red wire is disconnected from the ECS' input harness or damage will occur!

There isn't a receiver battery connector (like on the TEU-101BK), so how would I hook it up?

The ESC's input signal harness is the cable that goes from the ESC to the receiver. It has three leads (black, red and white/orange). It is the red one there they are referring to, not a separate power cable. You need not cut the wire but you must remove it! You can simply remove it from the connector housing as is is fixed there via a plastic pin. For that you need a small flat screwdriver or a needle to lift the pin. Then you can simply use an inch or two of insulating tape.

However, you only need one BEC-capable in your system. If the ESC you are using is BEC-capable the receiver does not have to have BEC as the BEC-capable ESC has already regulated the output. You only need the separate BEC circuit when neither the ESC nor the receiver has BEC-capability.

Tamiya is unclear whether the MFC01 has BEC or not, they only state that you should never use a separate receiver battery. My interpretation is that the MFU does feature a BEC. I run an old JR receiver, that does not support BEC, on my MFC-01 and it works as it should. It thus supports my assumption that the output from the MFU is regulated to 6.0 V via a BEC circuit.

I removed the RED wire from all 4 of the connectors that go from the MFU to the receiver, hooked up the Novak BEC per instructions and the results were mixed: servos works, sound does not.

When I reattach the RED wires to the connectors that are not for the servos, the sound works again but nothing changes when I unplug the Novak BEC from the receiver leaving me to assume that it no longer is effective.

I forgot to mention that the TEU-101BK does not have a a built in BEC giving the full voltage from the batteries to the servos when used with a receiver that does not have a built in BEC.

Based on that I can only assume that the MFC-01/-02 does not have a BEC built in also since I was not able to find any information either way - thus the reason for wanting to add an external BEC.
